Applied Materials, the folks who make equipment used to manufacture computer chips has announced a planned reduction of their workforce by 12% or 1,800 people before the end of fiscal 2009. This announcement of course comes less than a year after they fired approximately 1,000 people in January.
In their 7th straight quarterly profit decline, they posted a 45% drop for Q3.
In a surprise move, clownsumers have reduced their appetite for financing Dell personal computers with LCD screens and surround sound at 18% APR. Weird.
Applied Materials' Silicon Valley headquarters is in Santa Clara, CA. This is not very far from Google's headquarters. Maybe their estranged ex-employees can exchange somber stories in the soup kitchen line.
