As the tax revenues rolled in, due to the equity bubble and successive housing bubble both fueled by the credit bubble, governments across this nation were hardly shy about bloating themselves up and spending what they collected or more rather than saving for a rainy day. The tax receipts have nose dived and welfare payouts are now due in the form of unemployment and such.
Hamilton County is a model example of this behavior. They are looking to cut 532 positions, or 18% of their payroll. Note the heavy cuts in policing and courts. And the media ran with the Obama election and his stupid constitution breaking views as the reason people are stockpiling guns. Well it is that and more. I would list them in the following order, just based on my own asinine opinion.
1. Democrats hell-bent behavior on gun banning and breaking the constitution and them getting a full sweep in these 2008 elections over government
2. Economic lull with a chance of depression, think "Mad Max"
3. Reduced police forces due to governments inability to act as a fiscally responsible entity
