Cessna Comes Crashing Down

Aircraft manufacturer Cessna will put around 650 people out on the street, they announced today. 500 of these jobs are to come from their two plants in Wichita, Kansas. According to their web site, there are approximately 12,000 people employed there, so this is a lightening of about 4% in that location.

Another 150 jobs are to be purged in Bend, Oregon. Purportedly, Cessna acquired "certain assets" of a company called Columbia Aircraft in 2007. One of these assets was a 200,000-square foot airplane manufacturing facility. It is not clear how many people are employed here, but with their website claiming 15,000 total employed in North America and 12,000 of those being in Wichita, it is likely a high percentage of the local workforce.

Cessna's usual clientele is likely high-rollers and businesses, both who have severely reduced purchasing of large ticket items, including, you guessed it - multi-million dollar aircraft.

Cessna's HQ is in Wichita, Kansas.
